How To Prepare For A New Week

This post is all about tips to have the most perfect Sunday routine to set you up for success throughout the week.

Your Sundays should be the most crucial, peaceful part of your week. We tend to forget just how important the last day of the week is, and it is so important when it comes to setting yourself up to have a productive week. The energy you bring on new years day, in hopes for changing yourself for the better, should take place every Sunday.

Each Sunday I spend hours of the day preparing for the week, as well as setting goals, cleaning, pampering and anything else in between. The key to this is to make these tasks within my day as relaxing as possible! Doing so will help by making you feel recharged and refreshed for the upcoming week. Your mindset will be thanking you for the week ahead!

If you are ready to kick next weeks butt, here are my tips and tricks for how to prepare for a new week, along with a free checklist!

The Perfect Sunday Routine

Maximizing each moment of your day might seem like the key to productivity, but it often leads to stress and burnout, which isn’t the best. While I value my Sunday routine as a way of gearing up for the week ahead, I don’t let it control my entire day. Prioritizing relaxation over productivity allows me to savor the moments I have left in my weekend.

A crucial aspect of my Sunday routine involves minimizing my use of technology. I make a conscious effort to steer clear of social media, refrain from checking emails, and avoid working on my blog whenever possible. If you often find yourself glued to your phone or computer on Sundays, I suggest experimenting with a digital detox or integrating more tech-free activities into your weekend.

Laundry & Cleaning

God forbid I wake up in the morning and my clothes are everywhere and my room is cluttered. That is absolutely the most horrific way for me to kickstart my morning. This looks different for everyone, but as for a 23 year old with high functioning ADHD, I feel anxious, flustered, annoyed and even upset waking up like this sometimes.

On Sundays, I dedicate an hour to tidying up a few things, setting the stage for a fresh start to the week ahead. The sense of accomplishment and clarity it brings is truly invigorating! For me, this ritual entails…

  • Laundry is washed AND put away (I do this first thing in the morning as it makes me feel that much better than doing it right before I go to bed, then put it away on Monday, thats not how I work)
  • Every bed is adorned with fresh sheets—a sensation that brings unparalleled comfort, especially following Sunday night baths. It’s a ritual that’s worth every second!
  • The whole house is vacuumed and cleaned.

Self Care Routine

Once you are done with your bath/shower routine, it’s time to give your skin some well deserved TLC (tender love and care) with all of your favorite products. Seriously, there is nothing like pampering yourself head to toe to end the week right! By the time you finish your routine, you will definitely feel like a whole new person – refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to tackle whatever the week throws your way. So go ahead and treat yourself right – your body deserves it!

Meal Preparation

Alright, lets be real here, who is going to cook every single day? If you do, major props to you! But for the rest of us, here’s the game plan: whip up a big batch of dinner that can stretch over a couple of nights, get those snacks sorted out for the week, or roast a massive tray of veggies to have on hand. Trust me, it is all about keeping that stress level in check as we dive into another week.

Catch Up On Reading

I made sure to highlight the significance of the “YOUR CHOICE” statement. Reading occupies a substantial part of my time, with the majority being devoted to textbooks. However, I firmly believe in the vital role reading plays in personal development. Even if Sunday is your only available time for it, I’ll still commend your effort. Yet, the key is to make it enjoyable and meaningful for you. Opt for something you’re genuinely interested in, rather than a textbook or work-related material. Let it be a source of enjoyment and learning tailored to your interests!

Journaling & Brain Dumping

As the sun filters through your window on this lazy Sunday morning, you relish the luxury of sleeping in. But suddenly, a flood of thoughts rushes in, overwhelming you with the week’s tasks—dinner plans, pending assignments, the endless to-do list.

Instead of succumbing to panic, try a brain dump or journaling.

Grab any handy tool—a piece of paper, your trusty notebook, or even your phone—and jot down every fleeting thought that clamors for attention. Yes, everything. Putting it down on paper seems to usher it out of your mind, providing a sense of relief as if it’s safely stored elsewhere. You’ll find instant relief in this simple act.

Plan & Prepare For The New Week

Take a moment to review your list; it might seem daunting at first glance, but remember, you’re a pro at handling challenges. It’s time to turn to your planner, Google Calendar, or preferred organizational tool.

Here’s my method for staying on top of things.

Start by going through your list and identifying the most urgent tasks. Schedule these for the beginning of the week, leaving the less pressing ones for later.

Consider tackling the tasks you dread first; getting them out of the way early means you won’t have to dwell on them for the rest of the week!
